Hello Dear!
Back to San Diego ! Today it was very foggy and it matched my mood !
Yeah you're right I should be very thankfull that I am back to my dearest Behnam, I should be all cheers that we are sharing our lovely home together! I should more than happy that we have each other (and I definitely am)
but there is something that was bothering me when I was in our balcony ...
You that I drove back on Satureday and I moved to our new place on Sunday.
I woke up on Monday with abundant energy to start school ...
Next week I am going to a conference so I wanted to make my slides for the conference
First I went to the office of Karol, the department administrative manager, to check my TA (teaching assistant) position. There Karol told me that the TA position does not cover my tuition (it is almost 6K (6000$)). Any way yesterday I talked with my advisor, Curt, and GOT the money from him (first he didn't want to pay it.) So I am fine this quarter.
But I am mad. I am mad his management.
The way engineering graduate schools work in US is that faculties(ostadha) write project proposals for the government or companies and ask for money for those projects.
Then they buy stuff with the money and pay graduate students to do the job.
I think the probability that your proposal get funded is almost 10%. It also depends on your connections and people you write proposal with.
I think in the last two years that Curt is working at UCSD he wrote not more than 3 proposal and now he is telling that he doesn't have money to pay me.
I really like to tell him that it is the consiquent his management, his lack of responsibility and even his lazyness.
I am mad at him ...
But, you know, whatever happens I have Behnam to share my sadness.
I am even thinking of changing my advisor ...
Whay a world you're always on edge ...
It sounds impossible to have everything that makes you happy even for shortest duration of time ...
love you,
Maryam

It is 3:32 am now, I am trying to finish my work here in Berkeley so I stopped working half an hour ago.
We went to "the city" at night. Around here they call San Francisco "the city" and honestly nothing describes it more. We went to the north beach area to an Italian restaurant called Step of Rome or something like that. I just has a piece of Tiramisu. It is my faivorate desert. I'll definitely make some for you guys when I come to Iran. I have made it twice here and there is no failure!
By the way, by we I meant Lakshme, Dellyn and her roommate Laura. Dellyn is my projectmate though I don't work very closely with her. I have worked closely with Rahul and Farzad and Lakshme is Rahul's roommate.
Any how, we got into Steps of Rome by 11:00 and still there was a line to get into the restaurant. Even when we got out passed 12:00 there was still a line though shorter !

Laddan and Yasaman went to Arash concerte last night! I think the music is nice!
Today the first scene that I saw from my bathroom window was my ninty-year-old neighbor hanging her cloth on a rope in her backyard.
She has been living in this neighborhood for 80 years! For me who moved 7 times in less than 3 years it is unbelievable.
It was a while seen I have seen any peices of cloth hangged on a rope ! Here we use dryer machine to dry our cloth. (I take my dirty cloth to a washer/dryer three blocks away)
The very first days that I came to Berkeley I talked with the lady. She has nice flowers in her frontyard: "laddan", Monrovia, and a few more. She has a small black dog named Jose who according to another gets a lot of attention in this neighborhood.
The area that I am living at is not really in Berkeley. It is the north part of Oakland but it touches Berkeley. I think it is a very live neighborhood and anybody who lived in Berkeley agree with me. On one of the previous long weekends(when a Monday is also a holiday) one of the neighbors invited everybody in the neighborhood for a pot lock party (where anybody make a dish and people share the food and enjoy spending time, like our parties at Amoo Sharmad place in Karaj). They dropped a flyer at the front for invitation. Isn't it fun to live in such a neighborhood ?

Hi I am Maryam, I created this weblog for my sister Marjan.
She is 19 with black eyes and long hair. I love her to cut her hair with layers and make a frame for her cheerful face. I love her to talk about her highschool friends, her new job as an English instructor, her activities at university and her passion: people.
She likes to know about people all around the world and I want to write her about people in California.
